RainingPewterMushroomsRaining Pewter Mushrooms26 April 2006 It seems winter has arrived in Cape Town. On Friday afternoon we set off to take some things (mostly glass, cardboard and some broken computer bits) to the Footprints Environmental Centre in Wynberg and got throughly rained on. From there we headed into town and got stuck in horrible traffic as rain related incidents clogged up the N2 and caused traffic to back-up along the M3 all the way passed UCT. In town we collected our Nights of Reckoning booster box, which Michael had kindly ordered for us and proceeded to open boosters as we sat stuck in traffic. Eventually we took shelter at Adrianna's parent's place and waited until things cleared up to drive home. What little remained of Friday was spent very enjoyably at Kait and Sarah's house warming (which was awesome except for the burning of a hole in the counter top). Saturday morning we went to Tokai forest and failed to pick mushrooms but did succeed quite admirably in getting throughly dretched and in navigating cross country back to the car. After drying out we attended Eckhard's pewter casting class (his new garage is very shiny) before dashing off to David's birthday cocktails at Baraza in Camps Bay (although hot chocolate was more popular than cocktails given the wide open windows and the weather). Finally we had dinner and played Save Doctor Lucky in the Burning Hotel and Nexus with Kevin and Neil. Hand-ins and the like prevented the running of the L5R game on Wednesday so we played on Sunday instead. I was quite happy with the resolution of the current plot arc with the players opting for a political compromise rather than blood-shed and mayhem. Monday was singing and more pewter casting (making the moulds this time). Much angst was had over the finishing of my wax model - a fiddly bit of it broke and I had to get Adrianna to help me reconstruct the broken piece with softer wax. Now we have moulds for an ankh, a kitten and a strap end. Last night I braved the evening traffic to fetch my up grandfather from the airport and take him through to Fish Hoek. Later we watched the MST3K of The Thing That Would Not Die with Steve, Janet, Nick, Thomas and Nicki. |
