Cows That Were
28 May 2006
LTNB:
- Attended a three day training course run by my new work to get up to speed on the existing applications. Nice change of pace and free lunches but commuting to Simonstown everyday was a PITA.
- Played an Imbued deck in the recent VtES tournament. Defence was rock solid but it was lacking in the ability to oust its prey which left me with one victory point (for not being ousted) in each of the two rounds. Adrianna's bruise-and-bleed Guruhi deck fared quite well, especially in the second round where she took out her Ishtarri prey to secure a win at the table.
More recent events:
- Constructed a cow (with movable limbs, udders and head) and placards for a short piece on the history of the local SCA shire. Acted as assistants in presentation of said piece.
- Saw X-Men III. Was decent. Low-lights included Magneto's sudden loss of I.Q. (I suspect a brain haemorrhage sometime between the two films), Magneto's treatment of Mystique, Rogue's angst, bitch fights, teenage boy fights and too many characters who get five minutes of irrelevant (to the plot) screen time so that someone can say the character was included in the film. Highlight: Flashback to before Xavier and Magneto went their separate ways.
- Upgraded to Dapper Drake. If you're dist-upgrading to Dapper Drake from Breezy, be warned that a number of Dapper packages (including a bunch of gst-* packages and Dapper udev startup) seem to require kernel 2.6.15 (the kernel in Dapper) or greater. This will probably mean you'll need to reboot somewhere during the dist-upgrade and continue it with the new kernel (I managed to get through the gst-* packages by sim-linking gst-compprep-0.8 to /bin/true until I had the new kernel running and then manually running gst-compprep-0.8 so gstreamer could update its configuration).
- Got quite a bit of work done on Sutekh. It's now much faster and also (mostly) handles the new Imbued cards from the Nights of Reckoning Expansion.
- Bought CDs from CD Baby: 1x New Model Army, 1x Arockalypse, 3x Floater.
- Went to see "The Sleepers" at Cool Runnings in Obs.
- Our microwave exploded. To be more precise, it filled the house with acrid chemical smoke while I hunkered down in the study and waited for the timer switched to it off before venturing out to investigate.
