A mysterious third force which has been sabotaging both the Empire and the Tribe for decades. Its homeworld, strongholds and ultimate motivations are unknown. It appears to have some kind of group intelligence, and to possess advanced knowledge of biotechnology.

The best-known specimens of the Hive are hive-spiders—creatures which can survive in just about any environment and possess a startling range of natural weapons: claws, teeth, stings and corrosive spit and breath. There are rumours that the Hive also has shapeshifters among its agents, and that they have infiltrated both the Empire and the Tribe—accusations of Hive contamination are an excellent pretext for bloody purges among both humans and lizards.
