Captain Nobeard

Captain, effeminate but with a vicious streak

Age: 35

You have sailed the seven seas for seven years as captain of the Blue Snail. You rule your crew with a limp, iron hand—you are unusually effeminate for a pirate, which you over-compensate for by abruptly becoming aggressive, gruff and confrontational when you feel your authority is challenged. This does not prevent the cockier members of your crew from cracking jokes about you when they think you are out of earshot. You are by no means gunshy, and have been known to shoot past the ear of some of your crew members to keep them in line.

Your journey to this island has been gruelling. You are highly strung and wish to sail homeward. You have worn the same pair of pantaloons three days in a row and your favourite jacket is becoming discoloured.

You and Silvertongue, the ship's navigator and first mate, have agreed to split the treasure 50/50. You have no qualms taking a larger share, should the opportunity arise. Things have gone awry in the cave—the cook is dead and all bets are off.

Other characters

  • First mate Silvertongue: You don't much care for the man, although he is organised enough. You suspect that he shot the dear old cook, which in your mind is unforgivable. Your relationship has been cordial, but there is no love lost between the two of you—you are prepared to be as ruthless as you need to be.
  • Tenzin, the parrot: Funny little bird, such pretty feathers! An excellent accessory for any pirating occasion!
  • Biscuit, the cabin boy: You have always wanted a son—never quite got round to it. Too busy doing manly pirate stuff. You are therefore very fond of the boy, occasionally ruffling his hair how you imagine fathers do. You let him get away with things you might not let others get away with.
  • Crusty, the cook (deceased): A friendly, hearty man—probably the closest you have to a friend on board. You are much aggrieved by his death.

Motivations

  • get treasure
  • avenge Crusty

Equipment

  • one half of a key for the chest—Silvertongue has the other half.
  • a pistol
