!!Birthday Party
[- 26 July 2004 -]

Well, the recent weekend was definitely ''interesting''. Mostly in a good way but it started off badly with my cellphone being stolen while I was out shopping for party snacks on Saturday morning.

We bought a lot of the party snacks from ''Mainland China'' in Claremont. The fruit-flavoured jellies were one of the highlights - I don't think I will forget Philip slurping one down whole in a hurry. The date and nut toffy was also quite exciting although incredibly sticky. We also should not forget the not-quite-guava-flavoured communion-wafer-esque dried fruit thingies or the mountain of rice crackers.

After everyone left the party I stayed up until 4:00 successfully soldering together a new null modem cable to connect my camera to my laptop. Now all I need is some new batteries and I'll be happily snapping away again.

On Sunday MyrdemInggala and I drove out to Strand to have lunch with my mom and Deon. The restuarant we intended to go to, ''The Fishmonger'', has closed down so I guess the R20 voucher they gave me is now useless. :) The replacement, ''Kaapzicht'', was pretty cool though - it had excellent cherry and cream waffles.

We finished of the weekend with our Sunday evening Cyperpunk game. Our characters have been fired from Trauma Team and so we're out on the streets looking for work as best we can. With less than 40 creds apiece things are looking grim for our heros. :) And the question we're all asking ourselves is: "Will Yevgeny finally manage to steal a car?"

The international network connection is down this morning, which is why I'm typing a long entry.

On a unrelated note, I'll be leaving for the UK tomorrow evening so there'll probably be a break in blog entries. I've also just ordered R4500 of travellers' cheques. I feel poor now.

!!Gone!
[- 23 July 2004 -]

Playtested Mike's Dragonfire module, ''Gone'', last night. It was tons of fun and I highly recommend it. One of the best modules I've played in years. As Tai said, it'll probably tax the DMs pretty heavily. It's also a good thing that it's running at Dragonfire since being with a bad group of players could seriously screw things up.

In other news, I'm definitely going to Cray for two days of training. It's costing an arm and a leg (assuming you get a good rate for your body parts) so I'm frantically trying stuff out in order to have lots of questions ready. Woot.

!!ICON 2004 Round-up
[- 20 July 2004 -]

ICON 2004 has come and gone. Or perhaps more accurately we have gone and come back.

Highlights:
* GURPS Discworld module (written by Russell Goldman, DMed by Mike Dewar, Cool roleplaying by Steve ''The Milkman'' Emslie).
* Unknown Armies module ''League of Remarkable Scoundrels'' (DMed by John Bromberger).
* DnD module ''Shattered'' (heavily scripted but made fun by a having cool people to play with).
* Partially wrote a module for Sigil.
* Cool mugs and t-shirts.
* Excellent showers in the F1 Hotel rooms.

Lowlights:
* Cancellation of Russell and Angela's ''7th Sea'' LARP due to lack of players.
* Smokers.
* Not making it to ''Zeppelins''.
* Being delayed for 8hrs at the start due to car trouble (Patrick's).
* Lucas' Golf losing 5th gear near the start of the trip.
* Taking 19hrs up and 22hrs down.

Midtones:
* Replacement LARP (fun but a bit frustrating at times, thank-you Katie for running it at incredibly short notice)
* Dinner at the Spur post con.
* DnD module ''Hunters, Inc'' (written by Russell, inexperienced players and too long).
* Going to work straight after getting back. Currently approaching 36hrs awake.
* Wearing ''7th Sea'' costume on Saturday (it was ''very'' shiny).
* "Da Hooch!"
* Comedian at the ICON prize giving.

Things Missed:
* DnD module ''Darkness in the New Day'' (written by Jessica and Philip, playtested)
* Cthulhu module ''Museum Peace'' (written by Philip, playtested)
* Various bad RPGA modules.
* Warrick's Cthulhu module (featuring a dog as one of the PCs)
* The ICON dinner.

Winners:
* John Bromberger: Second Best DnD DM
* Mike Dewar: Second Best GURPS Discworld DM
* Jon Warncke: Warhammer Champion

!!Birthday Month
[- 1 July 2004 -]

Worked on the some of the magic and experience system for Sigil with MyrdemInggala last night. You don't realise how much work goes into creating the details of a setting and roleplaying system until you actually attempt it yourself. I'm really liking that fact that magical talents, spells and items are all covered by the same system mechanics.

Work-work on the ontology version control and accessioning system continues. The code base is slowing congealing into a workable system.
