FestiveSeason2006The Ghost of Solstice Past2 January 2007 It's the start of a new year so I thought I'd try do a catch post for some of the missed time. Today is Confluence's last day of holiday before starting work with Sjsoft tomorrow. Working for the same company will possibly take a bit of getting used to, but it'll be cool to be spending lots of time together again. :) We spent most of the day recovering from New Year's and then Conrad kindly gave us a lift to watch movies (Near Dark and Fright Night 2) at Lara's. For New Year's itself Colleen and I organised a yacht trip from the waterfront. We wombled around the harbour a bit (past lots of huge container ships and other interesting things), then headed out beyond the breakwater to watch the fireworks. The display took place almost directly overhead and we were surrounded by five or six other boats doing the same thing. It was fairly awesome. :) Before and after was spent mostly at Conrad's place, playing table tennis and pool, relaxing and eating lasagna, although we did detour passed Adderly Street to look at the lights. Dave was our chauffer (getting a car repaired on the 30th doesn't seem to be possible) for the evening (thanks!). Upon arrival home we discovered that we'd accidentally locked Noether in the study (she sometimes hides behind the curtain and sleeps there). The damage included one punctured exercise ball and some shredded financial documents. Thankfully there was no wee or poo. The few days between Boxing Day and the weekend were spent working. I also managed to pick up a low-grade cold, possibly as a result of swimming for ages and ages on Boxing Day at Colleen's sister's (I'd semi-forgotten how much fun swimming is, obviously my immune system has also forgotten how to cope with extended stays in water). Boxing Day evening saw us at Jessica and Eckhard's braai, catching up with lots of people we hadn't seen in quite a while and acquiring tons of yummy presents. Christmas Day was mostly spent sleeping after staying up late at Confluence's parents' place on Christmas Eve. We did see Philip and Jo briefly in the evening for gift exchanging and instruction in the ways of dominoes. Present haul has included so far three really cool shirts and running shoes from Confluence, dominoes, book vouchers and a cheese serving set from Confluence's folks, a cute stuffed lizard from Vera, Bolivian coffee from Philip and Jo, biscuits from Jessica and some yummy chocolates from Lara and David [1]. So far my New Year's resolutions include:
My dad should reach Cape Town in the next few days, so there are likely to be a number of family engagements. I should also be taking some leave to make up for the lack of a proper holiday when everyone else was off. :) [1] I'm mostly recording this for my own enlightenment two weeks from now when I'm staring at a gift and can't for the life of me recall who gave it to me. |
